You will need Paint Shop Pro 8 to make the yellow/blue and the patterned quilts. For the purple/teal quilt illustrated at the top of the page, you will need the full version of Eye Candy 4000 as well. Unfortunately I found that the Eye Candy 3.1 does not give a good result with the Weave effect here but do feel free to experiment with it if you happen to have the Eye Candy 3.1 plugin. The tutorial is written for the purple and teal quilt but the materials and settings for two other quilts using only settings from within Paint Shop Pro are given at the bottom of the page next to the illustrations. The procedure is the same for all of them. Have fun!
This tutorial will take a long time to load as there are many graphics, your patience is appreciated.
New Image 15 px x 15 px, settings as shown.

Flood Fill tool

Foreground color Teal 008080, Background color purple 710672

Select your Zoom tool.
If you can't see it it's in the palette at the top within the Pan tool
. Click on the drop down arrow next the Pan tool

and select the Zoom too (ill9). Then left click on your image a few times till it's easy to see. To get it back to its original size either click on Image-Zoom-Zoom to 100% or click on your right mouse button several times.
Now set your guides. Click on View-Guides. If your rulers are not visible, click on View-Rulers.
To set a guide, point your mouse cursor to the ruler and click and drag towards your image. A thin line will appear with a bar at the top - drag it to the location you wish. You can check your location by watching your status bar at the lower right hand side, where the co-ordinates to which your mouse cursor is pointing are located. Drag two guides out horizontally and two vertically so that they are just touching the sides of the square in the middle. Illustration 11 shows the guides in place.
Using your Mover Tool
and the guides for positioning, move the five layers into place as shown.

Hit Control-E to edit-paste as new selection and position your image in the top left hand corner. It will land with the marching ants round it - press Control-D to deselect. Continue using Control-E and the guides for positioning until your quilt looks like this:-
Try and get your positioning as accurate as possible at this stage and remember to use the Undo key if necessary. Leave your guides switched on. You will need them later. Remember to save frequently! Repeat, changing border color to white. Repeat once more, changing it back to Black.
Now it's time to add more blocks to the border for decoration. Press Control-E and again use the guides to position blocks at the corners and sides as shown.
Click on your Magic Wand tool
. Select one of the black areas - it doesn't matter too much if your earlier positionings weren't quite perfect and the selection runs right round! Continue to click on each black area, holding down your shift key whilst doing so, until all are selected.
Flood fill with the purple as before, then apply Eye Candy 4000 Weave as before followed by the first settings I gave you for the Inner Bevel. Deselect.
Repeat with the White bars, flood filling with the Teal color then Eye Candy 4000 Weave and Inner Bevel as for the black strips.
If you do not have Eye Candy you can still do this tutorial!
This quilt was filled with blue CBCCFF and yellow FFFFCO. Instead of Eye Candy I went to Effects-Texture Effects-Texture. I selected the Plaid bitmap from the dropdown list. Settings are as shown below. Then I applied the Inner Bevels exactly as for the purple quilt.
For this last quilt I used the following patterns which come with PSP8: Diamonds, Paper 08, Snowflakes, all at Angle 0, Scale 10. I then applied the Inner Bevel settings as for the purple/teal quilt.
Have fun making your very own Patchwork Quilts and many thanks for doing this tutorial, I hope you enjoyed it!
