This week we studied photographs and correcting problems in digital photographs. The first photo is a typical example of several in my collection which were really too dark for normal use but were otherwise good pictures.

Here it is with the corrections from the lesson - what a difference.

Corrected picture of painting in The Pantheon, Rome

The painting can be found in the Pantheon, Rome.

Next we went on to learn how to use the Automatic Photo Enhancement tool which corrected quite a number of pictures which were very dark. The first picture is of a very early statue of St Peter in St Peter's, Rome.

Next Bonnie Prince Charlie's tomb in St Peter's - again it was too dark to see clearly and the tool corrected this. However my skin isn't as pink as that!

Next a picture of the ceiling in the Vatican Museum.

Finally a picture of the angel above Raphael's tomb in the Pantheon.

I thought it would be fun to enhance one of my photos of the Forum in Rome.

In the next picture, of the grounds of the Villa Adrian near Tivoli, there were a number of people who really weren't wanted - the second picture shows my parents, whom I cloned to create doubles!

Sorry Rollie I didn't have any photos with red eye problems so I used yours.

The next photos are of flowers from a garden in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The first is the original picture.

Original flower picture

In this one, I applied Effects-Art Media - Black Pencil with Detail at 70 and Opacity at 46. The frame was a white background 25 px border, selected and filled with a blue gradient. Then applied Effects-Texture Effects-Texture followed by Inner Bevel, then a Drop Shadow of Horizontal and Vertical 0, Opacity 100, blur 10 and colour black.

Next I duplicated the original image again, applied Mosaic-Glass at the default, added the white border, filled it with a textured gradient, applied Straw Wall at the default. Then I applied a drop shadow of Horizontal 10, Vertical 10, Opacity 100, Blur 0, applied it again with Vertical and Horizontal at -10. Finally I deselected, reselected the white Drop Shadow, filled with textured blue and applied the Metallic 2 Inner Bevel preset.

Second photo with effects

Just one word - classmates may or may not know that I have a thing about using thumbnail images to link to fairly large images because of dialup users and the time involved for them in downloading. I decided not to in this case but would normally do so for a photo album of graphic artwork. All images were run through the JPG optimiser before uploading. Settings varied between 20 and 30%.
