left hand side. Well it's been an exciting week. At Christmas my fridge freezer broke down and I decided it wasn't worth while getting an engineer out to fix it for the amount it would cost to replace it. So I went to John Lewis and chose one and they were out of stock of it and weren't going to have it till February. I was looking forward to weeks of having to shop every night for food on the way home, and then last Tuesday they phoned to say they had it in and would I come and arrange delivery! The sales assistant couldn't have been more helpful and the new fridge freezer is coming on Thursday morning.
Also last Saturday I went into Jessops and ordered a new computer - my current machine is three years old and has Windows ME on it. Its guarantee is about to expire and it won't run a lot of the new hardware so I decided to get a new one. Jessops had a "pay nothing for nine months" credit offer and the computer they had looked so good that after some careful thought I decided to buy it. We had some fun and games with Fujitsu Siemens arranging delivery, but Jessops to their credit sorted it out very quickly and I am taking a half day off work next week in order for computer and fridge freezer to be delivered on the same day. I have had fun and games too with the local council - they will take away a single large item for waste disposal free of charge but the lady who took the information about it entered on their system "take away fridge freezer from front yard" and as a result the poor collection man kept leaving incomprehensible messages on my answerphone! All sorted out this morning and at least I know they're efficient about coming and taking stuff away.
If that wasn't enough I have had problems with dripping taps for a long time and my shower has also been dripping more and more frequently recently. The man is coming to fix that the same morning!!! I have tried wrapping the shower head and taps in vinegar soaked cloths which actually has worked to some extent but this does now need fairly urgent attention. My parents are coming in to London to help me with all this so I won't be around much for a couple of days, and my mother is going to do the door reversal on the fridge which is necessary because of its position in my kitchen.
To get back to the crafts, I have been working on a lovely doily from Ben Fikkert's delightful book Floriade (you should be able to get this from Handy Hands Tatting and I am three quarters of the way round the second last round. It's actually quite tricky remembering to make the long picots at the right point in the design and changing to the node stitch in the long chains - but the effect is worth it. The thread is DMC Cordonnet Special No. 70 and it is a joy to work with.
See you all soon! |
